  • Broken Belt

I blew the belt on a 1997 Max IV with an 18hp Vanguard. It was a new belt with only 10 hours on it and the tension and alignment were ok, clutches seem fine. I was running in nasty mud the whole time but I have never blown a belt that fast so I'm wondering if something is wrong. Can anyone tell from the pictures why the belt broke so quickly, any help is appreciated!belt2.jpgbelt.jpg

I would say defective belt. I don’t recognize that number. I run a 1092M3 Daco max belt on Briggs max IV.

I had the same thing happen to me last April Busco ride with a brand new belt. I had changed it in a hurry just before a night ride (put in on backwards) and by the time I got back it was shredded. I believe it was from being installed the wrong way, but like you I was riding in some nasty mud and I don't go easy on the throttle. Needless to say I have since bought a new one and a back up just in case.
