  • Axle making the wrong noise

Well, I finally figured out what the noise was in the front of the Max II. It has been there since I picked it up this fall, but I always thought it was the brake rattling around. Anyway, I am assuming the axle is toast, but if anyone has one they can mic for me I would appreciate it. It would be great if I could get away with installing a new bushing and center shaft until this spring, so I can do the flange bearing conversion, but I bet I will not be so lucky. Thanks!

Oh heck, I may have answered my own question. Saw a pic of a new axle on-line...mine is scrap for sure!

There was a bronze bushing in there.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

That bushing has been gone for awhile looking at the middle support bar.

What is the better modification...drill and tap a grease fitting or and a flange bearing on the inside support ?

Adding a bearing is the best way. I have one with inner bearing blocks and the other with bushing.

OD of the original bushing is 1”. You may have a bushing made to fit what is left. The pin will be toast also but can be made from 3/4” cold roll round stock. Inboard bearings are the way to go.
