  • Max iv tranny gets stuck

Hello everyone I own a 1997 max IV and just recently I've had to shut off the motor to get the tranny out of forward. Just wondering if anyone have any place to start resolve this problem.

    Thank you

Is your belt maybe a hair tight or maybe something making the sheeves sticky in the belt? That's all I can think of but I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as alot of guys on here.
Edit* I changed mine to split shift, mines a max ii though, but I changed mine because of being paraplegic I can't do the t20 dance as good or as hard as others can.

The Max IV's can be a pain. Make sure everything is clean linkage wish. What can happen is stuff builds up under the diamond shifter and makes it very hard to shift.

If it will shift with engine off the engine is applying load on transmission. Either clutches not releasing properly or something going on with belt. Usually just a high idle keeping drive slightly applied or broken piece in drive clutch.

          Hard getting out of gear...

Hold your brake levers to the rear when you try. Mine had a hard time going into reverse until I was told to do this. I don't know if it'll help your problem or not.

Rev the throttle up a bit, as the revs decrease make the shift. I know it sounds weird but I've had multiple machines with t20 transmissions and it works.

My max iv is stuck on gear as well. I'm pretty sure it is an internal issue with the T-20. anyone know where to get them rebuilt or worked on?

I would pull the engine and make sure it isn’t a shifter issue. The diamond shaped levers can be removed and allow you to inspect the pins and collar that shift it. Many times it’s not necessary to remove and repair the whole T-20.
