Here's a vid of my Max II I took today. it still needs some carb help...maybe some of you can give me suggestions. Anyway once I get it working right I can drift much more with no hesitation and bounce around more (maybe do some jumps too). I didn't roll it today!

My carb did the same thing after sitting for 10yrs. I just got it running and shot some carb cleaner into the air intake a few times. It worked.

did you get to where it didn't hesitate at all? i had to replace the needle and seat because the rubber tip broke off and it got too much gas.

I had to pull the carb completely off of my MaxII and clean it with carb cleaner. It sat for 2 years and collected a ton of dirt dobber mud! :/ Anyways, I dis-assembled it cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back together, cleaned out the tank, put a new fuel line and filter on, and presto! She purs like a kitten!

did yours hesitate when going up steep hills? it seems it acts different every time i adjust the float. i think i need to clean the main jet...possibly?

Jetting it would probably fix any hesitation your having. If you do that, dont jet it too large to where your getting too much fuel to air mix ratio. You could get it too rich if you do that. (She will smoke then) That will make it run bad.

there used to be dirt in the fuel filter, so i'm guessing there's some floating in in the jet somewhere. the bowl has already been cleaned out.

Hi: My .02 is to clean EVERYTHING in the fuel system, BEFORE playing with the needles. 4-Strokes don't take a lot of tuning (Compared to 2-strokes) unless you get into major engine mods. Playing with the needles of a carb thats dirty is futile, and then once it does clear out or you clean it up you're re-tuning it. I agree with MaximusII Clean the tank Replace lines and filter and clean out the Carboretor. (Get ALL the little passages!) Honestly, I drain and rinse the tank and replace the line and filter on ANY ATV/Bike/Power equipment etc... I buy, since it's $2.00 insurance against a problem in the near future. I have no way of knowing if the previous owner used old or dirty gas, if he kept the gas cans clean or if theres an inch of sediment at the bottom! Once it's all clean I'll bet your engine will be close, if it needs any tuning at all. And when it's going, it sounds good!

i already cleaned the tank, lines, and replaced the filter (the old one was full of crud). when i play with the choke it works. it will usually work on its own unless i'm going up a hill or doing sharp turns really fast. since the carb has been cleaned out too, i'm inclined to think it's an adjustment somehow unless a little spec of dirt is in the main jet or something. i'll just have to play around more, but i'm so close to ripping the whole carb off and cleaning it thoroughly. the only thing is you have to take several other parts off to get to the bolts for the carb right? it looks a lot harder than on a carbureted car, for example.

Andy: If you've cleaned everything out, and maybe missed that one spec, it's a real PITA to pull it apart again. My favorite trick is: First-clean off any dirt/debris arount the top of the engine, remove the air cleaner cover, the air cleaner, and the metal plate that sits up over the carb intake( not the bottom aircleaner cover, but the plate that would stop you from putting your hand over the carb intake) Now, starter up, and once warmed for a minute or two, either have a friend open the throttle, or do it by hand at the engine, to Wide Open Throttle (It's a stock briggs, if it has a govener, you won't overrev it. Even with out it, it's fine unless something is ready to go already, just use your judgement and error on the side of caution at first) once it gets up to full RPM PUT YOUR HAND OVER THE CARB THROAT AS TIGHTLY AS POSSIBLE, WHILE HOLDING WOT. Try to take your hand off just BEFORE it stalls, let it chug back up, and repeat a couple more times. (If it stalls it will be partly flooded, so hold 1/2 throttle or so while restarting) USUALLY, this sucks the junk right out of the carb, then tune and GO!

I agree with 6x6. You can suck debris out of the carb like that and most of the time it works great! A couple of screwdrivers, can of carb cleaner, and a little of time and you can get it clean. Try to advoid adjusting the jets if possible.
