  • Max II with tracks and tires problems (HELP)

Have a 93 Max II with rubber tracks and Rec ind upgrades on side rails, solid axles, new everything. Runs great but..... I keep loosing tires, especially on the front. Have the 21x11x8 original tires. 5 pounds, 8 pounds, 10 pounds psi all around and I lost a tire this morning again. Tired of pulling the Tracks off to fix a tire. Oh yea, using inter tube as well still a problem.

So after some thought. Is it possible that the tires are too old, too stiff, and don’t flex enough on the side walls contributing to my issues? I can’t think of anything else that’s why I’m posting. I want to enjoy the snow with the tracks this season, and I don’t want to drop $450 if someone has another idea... thx Mike from Jackson Michigan

The little 21" Goodyears are notorious for coming off the factory wheels. The tires also spin on the wheel causing a leak or failure at the valve especially if running tubes in the tires.
Mudd Ox sells a high quality beadlock wheel, I've run tires at 0 psi as an experiment on them and never had problems.
Since you run the factory rubber tracks you are stuck with the 21" tires.
You can check the tires for wear and tear and dry rot which also contributes to tire issues. A high quality tire sealant will get you some extra time with the tires too (not the cheapy green stuff). I ran a set of 21"s for years after they needed replacement just with the sealant getting me by. When I finally replaced the tires there had to be a hundred puncture marks in each tire but they had held air until replacement.

Thank you, I already purchased new carlile At101 and I’m going to check with Matt at Mudd Ox for the bead lock wheels, I appreciate your comments and help. Thx Mike

I use Ultra Seal tire sealant, from Gemplers. It isn't cheap, but this product really works well. I had this product on the amphib I mentioned as well as several mowers and ztrs, and other equipment. In fact on my Bobcat skid steer, I replaced a set of tires after 13 years. Some of the tires had nail punctures, thorn punctures, and spike punctures. One tire had so many holes in it I was amazed that it even held air, but the sealant did the job even though some of the holes were as large as dimes. I only replaced the tires when the tread was to the point of being like racing slicks.

I spoke to Matt at Mudd-Ox and I'm getting a set of Bead lock, They call them K-Lock wheels from Matt on Friday. The new Tires, Carlisle AT101's arrived today. So I'm hoping new tires and the K-lock wheels will do the trick. Mat was indeed very helpful as always, and I'm off to Indiana again on Friday. By this weekend I should be rockin. My wife just doesn't ask too many questions about stuff I am doing in the garage and how much it costs. I have factory K-Locks on my Max IV and have never had a tire come off the rim in over 20 years. I don't have tracks, but I am sure you will be happy. If you have ever tried to remove a tire from a K-Lock rim, you will quickly find out that it ain't easy.

The AT 101 tires will need 9-10 psi to keep tracks on in rough terrain.

Just picked up the k locks from Matt, AT101 came Wednesday... 9-10 pounds for tracks??? Sounds high but I’d rather be on the safer side than throw a track in the woods 5 miles from home. Sure not too much stress on the drive train at that Psi? Mike
