  • Max IV T20 on bench

    Hello all I have the T20 on the work bench in a attempt to add the red spring to the driven pulley. Bolt has been removed and pulled wont budge.Any tips for the whole process of installing spring would help. I dont want to booger anything up. Or some links to already posted searched but couldn't find to much info on the process thank you

    Welcome to the site Lemon. Give this a try.

    First, apply a liberal amount of penetrating oil to the input shaft. It wouldn't hurt to let it soak for a while - even hours or overnight if you have the time and patience. Keep it wet with penetrating oil.

    Screw the 3/8 retainer bolt back into the input shaft stopping short about 1/8 inch.

    There should be some amount of play in the input shaft. It should slide in and out of the T20 just a bit. You are going to use this slack to your advantage. Using a block wood or something similar to pry between the bearing housing on the T20 and the back side of the driven clutch, where the spring housing is located. All you want to do is apply pressure so that you hold the input shaft in an outward position with respect to that little bit of slack.

    While holding the input shaft out, tap the head of the bolt that holds the driven on. Don't hit it too hard because you will damage the threads. You can use something other than the bolt if you want, so long as it makes direct contact with the input shaft and not the bolt hole in the shaft.

    If this works and the driven clutch begins to move, you will have to keep backing the bolt out as the pulley slides off the shaft.

    Give this a try and report back. Good luck.

      Thanks that worked like a charm it slid right off the shaft now how to change the spring, I dont see any bolts to separate the spring housing

        Check out the clutch manuals in this site. You will at least need a piece of all thread and washers to aid reassembly. The manual shows how to release spring before removing the snapring. I put threaded rod through clutch before pulling apart to keep it from flying apart. Be careful.

            So the clutch is off and I have made a all thread vise to hole together. When the retainer clip is removed should the clutch release? I printed out the manual, but it does not specify or I am missing it. The retainer clip is off but it doesn't release

              The few I have torn down did not release that easily. Spray penetrating oil on it. Back your all thread nut off a little so that it's not keeping the hub from sliding, and tap the hub with a hammer. If it won't move apply some heat to the hub and tap it more. As it moves, back your all thread nut off so it has room to move.

              Be careful not to melt your plastic slider buttons.
