Biggest and Best Tires for a Max II

This is what it looks like and I heated up my body and hung it from the rafters too take up the slack and get the body away from the tires.

Hey Bushman, that's the best looking max II I've seen.

Did you have any problems with low-end torque/power loss due to the taller tires?

What size motor are your running?

What size wheels and tires?

Running 25" Rawhides

The 25" tires do take a little off the top but not so much that is not worth running the big tires.

The slickest way to get the needed clearance is to use eye nuts on the body bolts and suspend the Max from the rafters with ropes and heat up the body with a heat gun or salamander heater. As the body heats up put more tension on the ropes and when you get what you need cut out the heat and let things cool down for awhile. The body will stay put for quite a while like this and yes on a hot day if you leave your buggy in the sun you might lose your gain.

I am working on something in regards to the Max II body clearance issue and will put up some pictures when I perfect my innovation.

I am running a 16 hp Vanguard with high springs and weights in the drive clutch and it works out great for me. I am easy to please and am totally happy with this combo. I believe that if someone wanted to, they could play around and get better performance but I just don`t care that much and will probably wait till some one else figures out what works better and go with that myself.

How much clearance do you have now between the middle and rear wheels since you installed the 25 " rawhides on your Max II ?

Are those the Rawhide III 25x11x9 tires on K-rims? I know goodyear also carried 25x12x9 tires.

K rims come in 8 and 12"

If you want a 9" wheel that'll hold a bead on a rawhide 25x9, Matt Oxender makes an aftermarket wheel for his Mudd Ox. Same dimensions as a bigfoot or avenger wheel at 9"x10" wide.

The 25-11-9 is supposed to be a little taller than a 25-12-9 according to goodyear specs.

RajunCajun2001,my Max II is a 2007 with the 23 HP Kohler Command and I've replace the green clutch spring with the red one for more power throughout the RPM band.The tires are 25x12x9 Dirt Devil A/T they're not the best in the water but they are excellent as a general purpose tire.They give a good ride and are way better in mud and snow than the stock tires.

wheel spacers

Cajun, you can have a set of wheel spacers made for your Max anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Five bolt pattern on a 4 1/2 inch circle with 7/16 fine tooth threads. I had some made for my Max and they work great! Light, excellent quality!

You might also want to try Bike Bandit if you can't find them from Tires Unlimited. They have the 22" Goodyear Rawhide III (also cheaper than Route6x6 sells the 21" Carlisles for) .

I called bikebandit.com and the person I talked to said they no longer have any Goodyear Rawhide III's. In fact, I'm having a hard time locating any Rawhide III's. I want 22x8x11 tires for my standard Hustler.

Vampires for my MAX II ??

Hey Rajun,

Mike is right on the money about taller tires eating up horsepower. When I went to 25" tires on my Hustler, I had to gear it down 30% to get the machine to perform right.

IMO, Vampires are the best AATV tire out there, they will swim with V's facing forward, climb out of a muddy bank better than anything and mud with the best of them. HOWEVER; and this is also my opinion and worth about as much..I believe exerted psi is the most important factor in mud performance...even over ground clearance. Wider tires are what decreases your exerted psi, so if you found the widest 22" tires available, you would get the performance you are looking for without the horsepower loss and drivetrain stress. Vampire does make a 22x12.5-9 I believe, and I am sure there are other wide 22" tires out there.

The only two things you will gain are ground clearance and ride comfort with the taller tires, but it will cause other problems for you to deal with. If you were to have 22x12.5 tires vs. 25x12.5 tires in a bottomless mudhole, I don't think there would be a significant difference in performance since amphibs don't dig down to find the bottom like a quad, the goal is to stay on top....

I have MattO rims and run low pressure and really like them....great price too.

Does anyone know if the Vampire 22 x 12.5-9 will fit on the MaxII?
With all the raving for the larger ones on other machines not to mention the look it gives these are the ones I want, but I am a greenhorn with all this and need to know what I'm in for.

1- I'll need new rims (MuddOs), they have a dealership in Alaska.

what I do not know

Will they be too wide stock?
If so size of extenders?
Too tall? will the tub need moding with the 22's?(hope not)
My Max is a Tuch16 hp.

max onily use's 8 or 12 nothing elese . if they are 9 they are off a argo or matt o robbie

You shouldn't have to modify the tub. The only real question would be if they are too wide. The width of stock 22" rawhide III's is 11". These would be 3/4" closer to the tub. Most likely that would not hit but you should measure to be sure. If they do hit then you would need 3/4" spacers to move the inside of the tire back out to the stock location.

If those are the ones you want I would go ahead and order them along with the 9" wheels. Then put them on and worst case, they hit the tub. Then you could order the spacers.
