Belt too tight? Hp 3071 vs 018033

Normally my M-4 uses the 018033 belt, but mine are worn out. MFGSupply says the HP3017 is a suitable replacement, but dang, this one seems very tight, such that I can't get it over the secondary.
Is the hp3017 a bit smaller than the 018033?

The factory specs show that one is 1/4” longer than the 018033. Measure the outside carefully. Should be 42 3/4”.

Thank you, Mark. I did notice the measurement, but only after I posted my question. Lol. Yes, it's longer.
I've never had this much trouble getting a new belt on (it's a new, out of the box clutch, too). Giving me fits.
We'll give it another effort again later. Thanks for responding.

It helps if you take the primary clutch off , put the belt on then put the primary back on the shaft.

The belt I had on is the Dayco hp 3029, not the 018033 as I mentioned. This one is said to be 44.5 inches long, same width. That made it much easier to put on, than the 3017. We still had trouble with the 3017 again, so I intend to put the 3029 back one, and order more 3029'ss. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

We got the belt on, but just before we installed I noticed the left side double sprocket had slipped inward. The C-clip slipped out of the groove, allowing the double sprocket to slide inward. We managed to get that clip back in the groove, and the belt back on. The machine runs fine.

I'm sure others have asked this question. I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm brand new to the Max ll 6X6. I would like to know how to change the drive belt in the event I had to out on the trail? How do I do this, and what will I need for tools, if any.
It's a 1983 MAX ll with a 670cc Predator engine.
Any advice or instruction is appreciated.
