I'm sure the statement I'm going to make in the next sentence or two will be perceived as an exaggeration but trust me it's absolutely not!! Since joining this site in Nov '19 I've spent hours and hours searching for the brand name, dimensions and or part # of the muffler that a lot of people on this site used when they relocated their muffler to the inside of their Max II's. I've read many posts stating that the mufflers were sourced from RI but no associated info was provided. Also read that 6x6 parts sold a kit but its discontinued and the old advertisement I found for it only had pics and no part #'s etc. In the meantime I found a different muffler that functions but it's not ideal by any means. It's a hair too big and there's not enough room around it to install the proper heat shielding. Bottom line is I like the exhaust design I came up with but I need a smaller muffler like the one that I'm looking for. Anyone know the part# or anything about the muffler I'm talking about or know of something equivalent.? Any info would be much appreciated thanks...Cup

Max II internal muffler

I finally managed to find a muffler that fits perfectly inside my Max II and has room around it to install heat shielding. It's a Briggs and Stratton muffler specifically for my engine but it's not the muffler shown on any of the parts diagrams that I've looked at in the last two years. Those are all square like in shape and the one I bought is round. I don't understand why the muffler I bought isn't offered in the Briggs and Stratton parts diagrams but it isn't and that's frustrating to say the least. Maybe it's not an official Briggs and Stratton part I don't know. It's not exactly what I was looking for( wanted the one RI used to sell) but it's close and it bolts right up so I know it was made for my series of engine. The only negative(s) so far is the support bracket attachment point interferes with the clutch. Technically, the head of the bolt interferes not the support bracket itself. Not sure what I'm going to do there but I'll figure it out. The other negative is the outlet size. I need a tailpipe and the outlet is 1" O.D. which is restrictive and so far a very hard to find size of exhaust piping. Found lots of flex pipe etc but I'd rather hard pipe it. Read somewhere that the flex pipe is loud and let's off a lot of heat which I'm trying to avoid. If that's inaccurate please chime in because I'll go with the flex pipe asap because its readily available...Cup

Many mufflers for stationary engines will not function for our or other uses, we are currently looking as well for Rick's machine. The design needed leans toward lawn tractor or zero turn but haven't found what I am looking for yet.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Small Engine Warehouse out of Muncie, Indiana. item # BS-MUFFLER-58-R1. If you search Small Engine Warehouse it comes right up. That item # is for both muffler AND manifold pipe. Got it in 2 days for $111.02!! Smokin deal if you ask me because the manifold pipe alone is usually $100. The inlet/outlet size are small at 1" O.D. which isn't listed in the specs. For reference...the outlet pipe fits perfectly into a 1" copper fitting. Just wanted to give you the heads up incase that didn't suit your needs. Hope that helps you out...Cup
That's awesome!! Thanks for the info Cup. Really appreciate it.

Any chance you could post or send me a pic or 2? I want to make sure I have the clearance. My max ii is a 2000. Don't want it to melt top or tub. Thanks again cup. I feel your pain with the muffler, they are hard to find for sure. Thanks again
