I just got a 2013 Max IV with the 29 Kawasaki and CVTech clutch. I'm wondering if I might have the wrong belt on it. Part number on the belt is JM52-1221-C. Motor mounts are good and it has probably more than 2" of deflection. It came with an identical new spare belt that I tried and it fits the same. Belt is not rising all the way to the outside of the primary when revved out and rides set in the secondary a little. Top speed is ~20 mph

hey friend ...i'm not 100 % sure , but i think maybe 2'' deflection in the belt is too much ... seems like it's more like around 1 1/4'' or 1 1/2 '' . hopefully someone else will confirm . maybe it is the wrong belt with the wrong width . mines a max 2 , so belt maybe different on my machine . johnboy va

Shimmed the motor up 1/2" so far, it did help with the deflection. Probably down to 1.25" but now the radiator cap is hitting the hood pretty hard. Feel like either something is wrong with the clutches or it is the incorrect belt. This is the only 6x6 I've ever driven but it feels a little weak on bottom end. It seems difficult to find info on the cvtech stuff unfortunately. Kinda considering swapping to the more traditional clutch setup
Thanks for the reply

I switched to CV tech and like them better than the Comet. After a lot of experimenting I found the best belt is the Argo UXP495. I spoke with Timken ( the belt manufacturer ) explained the application and they suggested this belt as it is specifically designed for Argo. It’s held up better than anything else I’ve tried. I’m running a .100 shim under the engine stand. Probably wouldn’t even need that but I run it to the tight side. What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

This belt is .020 wider but the same length and a lot more heavy duty than the stock Ultimax Max 1116M3. Which allows for a slightly lower gear and less shimming of the engine. Better in all aspects. What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

Solved the speed issue. The primary has an optional “stroke limiter” which was preventing the belt from reaching the top of the sheaves. Getting 25.8 mph out of it now.
Got the new belt and I think it helped some on the bottom, definitely more driveable. Is the secondary adjustable at all? Think I read something about rotating the spring
