  • Max IV Pontoons

This my Dad's quick fix for pontoons that work great for stability and extra flotation.
We have a pond and river and when we first went in the water we found out our balance wasn't so good.
We are using the Max IV for fishing and exploring places other people can't get to.
We have a pump for the water and use a trolling motor for puttering..
The photos on the trailer show the pontoons mounts, which haven't changed, but the trolling motor mount is different.
You can see the new front rack and the trolling motor mount.
We use the winch for raising and lowering the motor and the front rack is great for standing on to fish, holds me and I'm over 300lbs.
We put an old boat seat on the back so you can sit there and fish out of the back.
We have a Max II and hope to have different type of pontoons for it by spring.
The last picture shows me and the boat seat folded up after pulling out my friends 4 wheeler.

How do they perform? If they work seems like a great idea.

Larry they work pretty well I am trying to dowload a video with my dad taking them for the first test run. They can be cumbersome sometimes when taking them on and off, but we can still make our way thru the brush and woods.

        Max IV in the water

This is our first test run on the pontoons.. Let Dad do it I didn't want to get wet!!! Went great we have made changes but the pontoons are still the same. They withstood a flood at our cabin, find them floating and frames were still by our cabin..

          Plastic pontoons

Rettey Pontoons For Pontoon Boats, Floating Docks, Platforms, Houseboats

This place has some plastic pontoons in light brown, same color as the max. I have thought of doing this with the Avenger as a precautionary measure as i go on long trips in the river. Liked the setup. Still looks nose heavy, keep working you will figure it out.

For open water I do like the idea. In enclosed areas, removability is key. I would think you'll want them ~ 1foot lower, so that they provide greater buoyancy so you float higher? This should noticeably improve water speed, never tried so not sure by how much, but judging by how much leaning in my machine can help turning, it may be quite significant, maybe enough you can forgo the Aux motor? well, maybe not. OK, handheld GPS it and let us know if you do try? Either way, I bet your at least twice as stable.

I have seen on the net, people made them and had little outrigger things that would lift up and sit on top of the cage when not needed. The one I remember most was a setup someone built for a RIM. It was manual lift and locked into place some how. I read he was going for a winch lift but wasnt to that point yet. He had a video of him in the water and seem ok but he had alot of extra weight in rollcage and such.

I think that vendor may have ben called Fun to the Max or something like that. I think they were also working on some type of cone clutch set up to make the Argo Tranny more like the "true 6 wheel drive" Max (thier description). The last time I read anythin they were looking for a donor vehicle to modify to try this.

The steering wheel is for the outboard motor. Adapted from a boat. Also can set the trim and operate the tilt. Pontoons are demountable from the Max for trailering. Outboard is 25 hp.
