  • Max II hard top

I posted this in another thread when I was trying to learn how to use the forums.
I should have started this thread instead of posting a reply to someone, so I am starting the thread now..
I am posting this, other pics and threads to show off some of the things that my Dad has come up with.. He has great ideas and is very good about figuring out how to get them to work with basic tools and skill!!
I am also posting more because of all the other users that help everyone.. I have been reading the posts for months and have gained a lot of knowledge and ideas.. Without this site Dad and I would be scrounging for information...
My parents own a canvas shop and we have two max's a II and a IV. They just finished a top for the max II which is very slick!!! They are willing to sell them or you can use pics for design or contact us for help. We will have the Max IV done in a couple of weeks.

Hear are some of the photos I talked about on the Max II top that my Parents made. The frame is out of aluminium with plexiglass for windows and MBO Board for the tops and doors. I was told that the MBO Board is a type of plywood that is used for outdoor signs, holds up well when painted. The back canvas is some that my parents use in making hunting blinds and it will hold up for years with a little care.
We are also adding lights to the top rail and hard point mounts on the top for guns and equipment. Will make it a little top heavy, but better than getting them wet. Also making pontoons for unit, have some for the Max IV and they really work great for balance and flotation.
My Dad told me that he used the Plexiglass and MBO board because it is easily replaced if damaged and not overly expensive. Also the two small windows on the front come off easily along with the doors and back canvas. This will work out great for summer leaving only the top and front window for protection.
I don't know if this is time to get on a soap box, but Max and Argo charge way to much for their tops. My parents looked at what they offer and said that it is a crime at what they are charging!!! I just wanted to say that anyone can send me a message or e-mail about the tops.
My Dad is working like crazy on the Max IV top so we can take both out in the colder weather, I live in Oklahoma not the coldest climate but very windy....
Also making a top for an Argo would not be hard just need measurements or what would be better is a Argo unit to custom fit.

I think this top is very cool. The only question I have is, do the windows fog up and how are the fumes?

When we had the Max II out running around it wasn't overly cold, but the windows didn't fog up.
My Dad had my two year old and his dog with him in the cab and they wrestled and played for 15 minutes with nothing.
Dad sealed the cab up pretty well, but there is enough small gaps for air flow so I hope fogging won't be a problem.
Also we have a small plug-in heater or Dad has one of those forced air heaters for tents that run on a small propane bottle..
He thought about putting that in, but we talked him out of it.. WOULD ROAST US!!! It doesn't get THAT cold in OK...
We didn't notice any fumes, which I thought was going to be a problem, because of the way the exhuast is routed. Our Max II is a 2005 with the 23hp Kohler and everything was new when we bought it, maybe being in good shape helps with the fumes?
