  • max4 tracks worth having?

I replied to someones half track question with one of my own,but my new bigger question is.Are tracks worthwhile on a max 4?? most all video and info I have seen are of tracks on argos.Seems much easier to hang tracks on an argo,I have this max 4 and I hate the fact the thing is crippled in 8-10" of snow.So much for all terrain.I love this thing but worried about snow keeping it in the shed while i plow snow with a lawn tractor.Does any body run tracks of any kind on a max 4 and what are its capabilities?I would like to fab my own tracks and make em work with my 22"tires,buying 6 new tires so i can run tracks(tires never even touch the ground) is nuts if you ask me.There has to be a way to do this but again will an18HP max 4 perform at all with tracks in over 16" of snow?? I would hate to go thru the work and expense of building tracks for 6x6 that does poorly in snow.Any insight would be great thanks

          Hi new2memax4,
please read what i had written about tracks below.
I have a Max II with tracks but sadly never used them but i think building or buying something different than the original wont work.

We got a set of tracks from a Max IV a couple weeks ago and installed them on a Hustler 980 Bigfoot. The Hustler's a little shorter than the Max so the tires have to be pretty hard to keep the tracks tight, but we've been having a ball with them.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

              (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

I have the R.I. tracks and the 21 in tires. My tracks are not the new agressive style but they do perform very well in the snow and the mud. They are 15 in wide rubber tracks. If you all ready have the bearing cages on your machine that will save you some money and time if you decide to go with the factory tracks.

                  Hi artist1018,
i think Escargo tracks are only offered for Argo cause of their lenght and i´m sure you need bearing cages for a Max.
And what if he has an older Max without solid axles ?
But for an Argo in deep snow i also would prefer the Escargo system cause my common plastic tracks have not much gripp on obstacles and surely they are terrible in water. What do they want for a set of tracks?

There is a craig's list MAX II Tracks $2000 in NH

I'm new to AATV and don't know if this is high or low, I just thought I would throw it out there.

Not sure of prices. However, there is an option for Max owners, look on thier web site under the first "escargo" option on the main page. You will see the requirements needed to use them on a Max at the bottom of that page. I have talked to them about 2 years ago. A little out of my price range, so I bought a used set of Argo tracks and modified them with chains, similar to what a lawn tractor uses. Works well for my needs in snow and mud.

wow, I just walked in (had a family emergency)Really appreciate all the input have not even read the deep snow tracks link yet.I just thought i would throw the question out there. i have just been having sticker shock when i check pricing on any kind of track for this machine.I am certain most of us would like to have a set of tracks for our machines but i suddenly understand why most don't have them.Hate being cooped up in the house all winter would love to be able to go out with the max when it snows and just travel around without fear of getting hung in 10" of snow.I live in central pa and we dont' get tons of snow but we are due for it.I would just like my max to outperfrom all the 4 wheelers around here. I am still thinking on how to do this. seems most of you recommend some sort of puchased factory type track.I have seen several machines on this site with" homade soft tracks" loks like they would help but i agree also looks only marginally better than tires> looks like the soft track concept is not really wide or rigid enough to provide adequate flotation for a max4 with couple of people in it.Stupid question maybe but what exactly are bearing cages???
