i bought a max 2 a couple years ago and with a 14hp vanguard and the guy who owned it prior to me jerry rigged the throttle linkage. It never seemed to work right and the handle was very hard to pull. i finally got sick of it and pulled it apart. it doesnt seem that i have the right parts or cable, so if someone could post a picture of what a working setup with the cable looks like it would be greatly appreciated.

Check out some of these pictures. These came from our How-to section here on the site. There are more pictures under the max ii t20 removal article and the max ii engine replacement article. Hope that helps. By the way, welcome to the site!

You can get the parts directly from the manufacturer. They shouldn't be much: Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511
It does have a throttle return spring. If you look in the last picture attached at the very left hand side of the picture behind the exhaust manifold you can see the spring.

max 2 throttle cable routing
i just bought the heated throttle cable from richard's relics and its like 3 feet shorter than my older cable. I assume that it attaches to the front side of the engine now instead of the old one that attached to the rear. I cant figure out how it is routed so if someone could let me know how it is routed or just post a picture. thanks

The heated cable that you got is fine. I routes the same down the stick, but when you get to the battery bring it up the driver side of it. then it is a clear shot to the tab on the front of the motor. If it came with a new ferrule for the carburetor you need to drill the hole out on the opposite side of the existing ferrule. use the housing clamp from the original setup and you are done. That shorter cable is nice because it eliminates running it between the belly pan and the frame.
