I am new to this Max II, Just finished installing a new front axle and bearings. Put the machine together today and in would not do anything when shifted into reverse. When I shift it to forward I can see the output gear move a little and feel the resistance on the shifting level. When I put it in neutrel or reverse nothing happens.. Is there a shear pin somewhere,, or do I need to pull the transmission? Hope its simple.. Looking for some help.

Just to make sure, when you are in reverse you have to pull the sticks back and then give it throttle to go back. Some people don't know this the first time.
If you are doing that, then first make sure that the linkage is moving properly to the T20.
Was it working properly before you changed the axle. Is this the first time that you have ever had it together?

Thanks for the replys..
When I put it into reverse and give it some throttle the drive pulley turns which should be turning the the transmission.
I observed the shifting mechanisms and they are moving from the forward position to neutrel and then toward reverse. This is the first time I ran this machine since I bought it as the axle was bent when I purchased it. It was a while ago that I looked at this machine and I thought that reverse worked as the original owner backed it out of the shed. I while try to shift it into reverse and give it some throttle to see if it backs up, but I am concerned that I don't feel anything resisting when shifting it inot reverse.
I was looking at the transmission manual tonight and there is only one field repair they talk about and it is removing the shifting pin/shaft. More later.
Thanks again. Dan

OK, if then you are pulling back, then it sounds like you broke something. BOTH shift pins would be big coincidence. Does it drive Forward fine? If not, possibly you sheared the key in the driven clutch? If you take the shifter linkage off and shift each diamond shaped shifter by hand, you will be able to feel if it is going into gear or not. If not, shift pins!
Hope this helps.Attex 295 Wild Wolf: sigpic My Runner

Another obvious thing, but I want to put it out there anyway. Are you sure you put it all the way in reverse? When I first got my Max, I thought I had it in reverse many times before I got used to how the shift lever felt slipping into gear. I didn't have to worry about anything being broken because it is a new machine, though, so I knew that when it wouldn't go, it was because of me and not because of it.
The T20 can be a tough thing to shift from forward into reverse and vice versa. Try rocking the Max back and forth while pulling the shift lever into reverse.Check out my new YouTube channel, TWANGnBANG.

New owner and YOU GUYS are GREAT!!
Thanks for all the suggestions.. This morning couldn't sleep so I went out and tried everything again... This time I started the machine, moved shifter to forward, gave it some juice and we moved, shifted to neutrel with a little throttle and moved the sticks we were fine. Then came the big one, made sure I was into reverse and PULLED the sticks all the way back... To my pleasent surprise it backed up.... Came back into the house with a big internal grim and my lovely asked ,,, why did you start that thing so early??
Thanks again to everyone... I can't wait to go out today.. We have some snow outsiode and as I said earlier I haven't drpve it much,, How much can it go through?? I would like to also fabricate some type of windsheild as this morning it 13 degrees.. This machine has 171 hours on it and I changed oil when I was waiting for the parts to arrive, I hope there is alot of life left in this machine.
More later..

Awesome! I would say with only 171 hours on it, you have plenty of life left. There are machines out there with thousands of hours on them. As long as you maintain it you will be fine. The worst thing that usually happens is that bearings fail, chain wears out or axles bend. It sounds like you have already experienced that so you know what to expect.
Now quit reading and go do some 360's in the snow.
