  • Steering Pops

Hey guys, any idea why my MaxII pops and jumps when I pull one stick left or right to turn? It seems like the chains are out of kilter or something.

Check tension and alignment. Either loose or misaligned chains can do this.

a chain could be slipping over a worn sprocket

OK, riddle me this batman! (Because I am too stupid to know)

How do you know if the alignment and/or tension is right and how do I properly adjust it?

Open the tub. Jack up one side (I use a floor jack and a board to spread the weight along the frame rail on that side).

With the tranny in neutral, manually turn the tires and watch the chains on that side. You will see if and where they bind, and if they are loose. I tend to prefer chains more on the loose side (1/2 inch of play or so). You adjust then by moving the chain tensioners on each side.

          Repeat on the other side.
