  • max II master link (Newbie Alert)

Hi fellas. Might I add this is a great forum. I just purchased a used 93 max II and this thing is great fun. I have a simple question. Where can I or what kind (size) of master link do these use? I think it would be a good idea to have a spare. Or any pointers will be well appreciated. I did buy some new roller chain tensioners from richard.Thank you

Did I mention I was a newbie. How do I tell if I have a jack shaft or a axle chain? There are two master links on my chain though. Thanx again

the jack shaft chain runs from the tranny to a jack shaft besides the battery and then down to the center axel the axel chains are the one that drive the axels . go to www. maxatvs.com and you can take the tour of a max II and see everything . robbie

            max link

look again i don't think it is difficult to tell the jackshaft-only one that has a chain runnig vertically. My Buffalo uses a heavier chain #60 for the vertical chain to center axle. If your chain looks heavier you need #60 and #50 links. You can also make a really handy tool by taking a long nose vise grip and carving a matching notch into top and bottom jaw. You need a really good tapered titanium reamer. Ask around to borrow. It's a $40.00 bit.You could probably carve it with a cutoff disc. Use notched part to grab chain links and pull together for easy install of link.

On a 1993 Max II, all the chain is #50 standard roller chain except for the two chains running vertically from the jackshaft to the center axle. These are #60 standard roller chain. You may want to carry a spare master link for each, just in case, as one will not fit the other. I use the type with the spring lock clip. Any farm supply store, most hardware stores, atv shops, and of course the manufacturer, Recreatives Inc, should have them.
