Newbie!!

Hi All, I have been reading the site for a few months now, it seems really great, friendly people and endless knowledge.
I dont have a Max "yet" A good friend has one and my boys and I love driving it. The lack of snow in SW Minnesota this year for our sleds has lead us to realize we need another toy!! A Max was first on the list. We would prefer a Max IV (dad ,2 pre teen boys and of course mom) but I,m not stuck on a IV.

I have found two within 6 hours away, both seem to be a good buy. Here are the details on them, let me know what you which one you would buy.

1979 Max II new and updated bearings, new chains, new elec. sys. ,new carb, new fuel syst. fairly new tracks and the proper hardware to go with them, no rollbar, body in good shape(red), tires are fair, 440 twin cylinder fan cooled Kohler, original t-20. $3000.00

1999 Max IV, Red, 18 hp Briggs, 26in. rubber, winch, 45hrs. on it. The owner bought it to get up to his cabin while it was being built and only used it every now and again, He is the only person to ever drive it, not mudded or abused (still has perfect gray paint on the rims) stored inside. No roll bar (which will be a must to add on to it). $3500.00

Welcome aboard! I personally would go for the Max IV. It is much newer and it sounds like the history of the machine is well known. That older Max II is priced very high and I don't believe that is the correct engine that came in it. Also, you would most likely have fewer problems with the Max IV, it can obviously carry more people and gear, and those V-twin Briggs engines are excellent performing and very reliable. Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

Max IV

The better choice the IV. I don't have one but i have seen them in action. They are great. That's the better deal.: Let us know how this works out. By the way, welcome to the site. As you know this is a great bunch here.

That '79 Max II has been on the market for quite a while. It has Tru Trax plastic tracks, axle extensions and axle supports with the extra bearings. Subtract those parts from it and you are looking at a machine worth somewhat less that half of the asking price of $3000. The seller says that he did a frame off restoration.

The Max IV is the better machine since it's much newer and has many improvements over the 30 year old machine. It is also the better priced of the two machines especially if it really only has 45 hours.

ARGOHUNTER, yes that is the same Max you are refering to. I left the part out about the "frame off resto" for the fact that in my opinion, every bolt needs to be turned and so on for a "resto" Thanks for the input
