  • Max IV power with 26" Tires?

Hi Ya all. Brian suggested that I post my questions on this forum so I cut and pasted my intro below.
You guys are just having way too much fun! I'm gonna fulfill a dream that I've had for years and treat myself to an aatv. I thing that a Max IV might suit me best. I don't see much chatter on the forum about ground clearance and problems on rough terrain. I will go for 26 inch tires and possibly sheet over the bottom because I've drug my ass too much over the years (). Do the 26 inch tires effect the power to climb with a 23hp engine? ANY COMMENTS?
    Thanks
    Al

A 23 hp on your Max IV will do great. That is plenty of power to turn those 26 inchers.

I've been running a Max IV 18HP for about 4 years with 26" tires. I have enough power to run them. It climbs hills fine, but probably slower than the 23HP. I've carried my wife and 3 kids around for rides and never had issues with trail riding. When the mud gets thick, the engine works harder and the tires turn slower, but it keeps on going. I don't think you will be dissapointed with a 23 or 25 or even an 18 if the price is right and the machine is nice.
I think the smaller engine in mine keeps me from breaking things.

Thanks guys. Might have to put a bigger throttle return spring or a stop, just to keep me from walking home Lots of great info on the forum. Still reading, more questions later if I don't find my answers.
