  • Max II 850-T question

Hello, I am going to have a gent drop off a Max II 850-T this week and was wondering how they perform. I have owned many vanguard Max IIs and to be frank the most spunky one was a 12.5 vanguard? I guess at some time the factory referred to some as Fast Maxs. I have to imagine that these machines had the correct springs for high speed right from the get go.

I could see that the driven clutch on the machine I am getting this week has the green spring, unknown what on the drive clutch.

What kind of performance can a guy expect with a 850-t set up for speed?

I have always enjoyed fast 6 wheelers and have had a powerful control of a couple of Superchiefs. Are we even in the same neighborhood of performance with a 23hp Command and the correct clutching on a Max II?

I've got a 2009 850-T, but I've never owned any other 6x6 to compare it to. It has plenty of acceleration, and I just spent all weekend towing 1500lb trailers full of gravel through tight trees and up slippery grades.

I've put nearly 30 hours on this machine, including several trips to Busco Beach AATV park, and I have never wished I had more power. Granted, I am not that interested in bouncing all over the place at a speed faster than is already governed in place, but the 23hp Kohler is a powerful, yet surprisingly quiet engine.

I have a 2003 Max II 850T and I have never wanted for power. It is indeed a quiet powerful engine.I am just completing a most enjoyable winter with the factory track system and found it had plenty of power, though with tracks in some types of snow there is never too much power.Like Raleigh I have nothing to compare though as it is my first 6x6.I'm not sure that either a V-Twin Briggs or Kohler picks up the revs as fast as lets say a similar displacement four-wheeler but the nature of these engines is more with torque than RPM.My Kohler runs a max RPM of just under 4000 and I think a Briggs is a wee bit less than that.If the Kohler is set up right and tuned I think you'll be pleased with the performance.I know the Kohler delivers lots of torque at low RPMs.
