  • T 20 won't shift

My 96 max II is nearly impossible to shift out of Fwd.
It will shift fine from Rev to N or FWD. but always hangs up on the right side in Fwd.
I installed the easy shift kit from route 6x6, but it did not help. It still hangs up in fwd. It does move easier from R to N or F now. the right side just hangs up in Fwd.
The chains off of the t20 have about 1/2" of slack in them, as do the rest of the chains .
ANY ideas on what I should be looking for?
Do the shift ears on the t20 need to be removed and greased?
    Something internal?
    Thanks for your help!

I'd take a look at the fluid level of the T-20. Also, check to make sure the diamond shifter hold downs on each side of the unit are tight and in place. If those come loose the diamond shifters will pop up and bind up and make shifting difficult.

I'm no expert but had similar trouble with max4 when I got it.Single shifter but the thing was nearly impossibble to get into reverse. The linkage was actually bent when I got the machine.Found this site read alot and found cure was, fortunatley for me, simply grease the shift mechanism, back under those little diamond shifters.I used a spray grease and have not had shift trouble since.Got other trouble now but thats a whole different story. Hope it's just some lube needed.

the easy way to pinpoint the problem is to unhook the linkage from the diamond shifters. then grab one and try to shift it while rocking the machine front to rear. if both diamonds move to all gears fairly easily then you have a linkage problem. if not, fight it into neutral and pull the shifter hold downs. then pull the diamond shifters out and inspect them for dammage. good luck and keep us posted

Ok, finally had time to work on my machine yesterday.
            Oil level was ok.
I removed the diamond shifter from the trans. & found the o-ring was fine, the aluminum bore of the trans was fine, the shifter pin was ok, it was just dry. I put some grease on the shifter and in the bore.
            It works just fine now.
The easy shift kit seems to help alot now , as you can feel each side go into gear at different times.
Once one side goes in, the other quickly follows.
Thanks for your advice! I really appreciate it.
