assuming you have essentially the same cvt setup as my scrambler i'm going to guess sheared key, clutch springs messed up or slipping belt(wet?)

There is an internal key on the driven (tranny) clutch. I am unsure if this would cause the symptoms that you are experiencing. But the info you gave on the adjustments last summer also causes me to wonder if the problem could be along those lines. Do you have the old (eyelet) or newer u-channel bar type tranny? Also did your machine act similar to the present symptoms before you had to adjust the bands?DESTRUCTION is just a couple of vowels down the street from DISTRACTION

It has the "u" channels on it.No it was not slipping before I adjusted the plungers, just way to much travel on the sticks. After the adjustment has been fine and the sticks dont have to hit the seat or the dash.It started the other day and again my first thought was belt slipping replaced and adjusted belt,I know that is ok.Beginning to wonder if I adjusted plungers improper and "smoked or glazed" the bands.Hope not ,the trans is up on the bench and I will be resetting those plungers so they have equal travel tommorrow and measure how much "stroke" they have before it goes back in.I think if I read rigth about 5/16" is where they shoul be and I think they are currently out further than that.
So far I have been unable to pinpoint any obvius reason for this problem.hope I get it fixed soon,Girlfriend is mad at me,Says I spend more time with max than anything else. She is right I probably won't work on anything else till max is moving proper again.
Can't wait, want new tires but no need till drive is fixed.Really appreciate all the help. Thanks

woohoo she is back!!
Been a bit since i talked but to all of you that posted ideas on my problem thank you!!.
I had to just walk away for a couple days I was getting thoroughly depressed about max not powering right.Anyway took motor and trans out, reset the t-20 by the methods found on this site.(much easier and alot more accurate on the bench)I will never try that again in the max 4.Anyway found no sheared keys reaasembled and bummer same problem, maybe only marginally better.Brought it back in and thought what the hey? These guys all tellin me belt, belt is new but surfaces are not.I used scotch brite and emery cloth on clutch surfaces all 4 top and bottom. Recommend you dont do this while running but i did, risky but still have all fingers. I also cleaned the sides of the new belt that i had just put on at begginng of this problem and woo hoo !! Just came in from mowing down saplings and stumps on the back hill. Needed an adult beverage to stop shaking.Took max up banks and hills and thru brush i never attempted before. These things will go anywhere you point them or at least make one very impressive attempt at it.Driving up hill pretty steep and over brush piles like they are just anthills. I am delighted she is back and thanks again for all your help.It is encouraging to know all you folks are out there and willing to help anyone who asks.GREAT SITE
