Axle bearing/seals are probably to blame for the water. Unless you have a hole some where else. Try filling your Max with water somewhat and see if you can tell where its coming out of.
The chain could of broke for a number of reason. Could of got something jammed in sprocket or maybe just weak. Possibly worn and loosen, jumping off and binding. If the sprockets line up and the wheels spin freely I wouldnt worry about it. You can get chain cheap at places like tractor supply in 10ft lengths or you can get some realllly expensive chain at Napa. You can ussually get it at local bearing places too. You pay for what you get but I run cheap stuff with no problem but my machine is smaller and I only have 16hp. Mine is only #40 to. Max are #50. Higher end chains may last longer though.

I have pinched the pin in with a vise or vise grips. You need a nut or washer on one side and squeeze pin and nut/washer. Then with a punch hammer the pin rest way out. Or I have ground them off too but try not to get the chain to hot. But like I said, the chain breaking tool is a nice tool to own with an amphib.
