Has anyone had a Max delivered to their house from the factory? What type of truck does it arrive on? How do you get it off the truck? I am considering ordering one but if I need special equipment, such as a fork lift or loading dock then I don't think I can get one. Thanks.

Mudslinger,
When I ordered my Max IV from Recreatives it was not shipped to my house , but to a DHL loading dock. I then received a notice in the mail from DHL to pick up my Max IV. When I received the pick up notice , I drove to DHL and signed the papers to pick up my Max IV, and an employee there used a fork lift to load the LARGE box that my Max IV was shipped in onto my trailor.Last edited by mudbug3; 05-24-2009, 12:01 PM.

I just went through this in November. The shipping companies currently used by RI do NOT have lift gates, nor am I aware of anyone with a lift gate large enough for the footprint of these machines. It is forklift only on the receiving end through RI's transport contractors. Depending on where you live and who they contract with, you might be able to have it off-loaded at a transfer station for you. This apparently was not an option they had for a Raleigh, NC, delivery at the time.
The other option is what I did. I contracted with another company myself. RI loaded it onto the trailer at the factory unpalleted. I met the trailer at a mall parking lot, drove it off, and drove it onto my small trailer (no place to do this in my neighborhood). RI will not charge you the shipping charge, so you basically get about a $500 budget to do this. Many companies will come in less than that.
The one I used didn't exactly do what I was told (they said covered trailer, but it came on a flatbed car trailer; they said they'd drive it off, but the driver was even more afraid than I was to drive it down two skinny ramps that you couldn't see from the machine). I would check with Motorcycle Shipping & Transport. Nationwide shipping of Motorcycles, Dirt Bikes, Trikes, Sidecars & ATVs | Free Motorcyle Shipping Quotes as they were great to deal with, and I wish I would have stuck with them. The only problem was that they wouldn't have had a truck in my area for 3 weeks versus 5 days for the company I went with.
Eagle One owns their trailers, which are designed for ATVs and motorcycles. They are all covered, drive on/drive off side and rear load trailers, and they can handle a Max, though you might have to have the cage/roll bar taken off to fit. Plus, they will take the time to learn to drive it on and off themselves because all of their drivers are motorcycle people.
The people were great there, and I'd use them in a heartbeat no matter what their schedule if I were to need such a service again. They were also cheaper than RI's delivery price to Raleigh.
FWIW, I bought my Max through Midwest ATV at Midwest ATV Midwest ATV. They were the only ones who honored their heavily discounted price listed on the internet. Other dealers quoted me above both their own listed price as well as Bud Moore's price from Midwest ATV. You'll probably save *thousands* buying from Bud versus anyone else. Bud is also a great guy and was very helpful in all aspects of the purchase.Check out my new YouTube channel, TWANGnBANG.

Did you give them the dimensions of a palleted Max? The companies I talked to with lift gates did not have lift gates large enough for a palleted Max. Every freight company I spoke with required the Max to be palleted, which is quite large and would hang off any lift gate I've ever seen by a fair amount. I have received many lift gate deliveries of gym equipment, and while they can handle the weight, I don't see them safely handling the size of a palleted Max.
Freight company reps have no clue what a Max is, so you really need to be sure they fully understand what they are quoting for you. Besides, I am willing to bet than any company with a liftgate large enough for a Max will charge more than a motorcycle or car transport company with drive on/drive off trailers (covered or otherwise). The only way to know for sure, though, is to call around. Bottom line- you will be able to get a Max delivered from RI to your door no problem, but you have to do the legwork yourself.Check out my new YouTube channel, TWANGnBANG.
