  • my first 6x6??

I just purchased a Max IV?? not sure what model I can't find any numbers on it anywhere. The guy advertised it as a Argo but after research it's a Max IV. It has a Chaparell 2cyl 2stroke engine. I'm guessing it was made in the 70's but only a guess. Is there somewhere to get a manuel on this. It runs and drives but needs some love. The plastic has lots of cracks and busted spots that needs fixing or replacing. The tub will not float as it is lots of holes that needs repairing. I've searched the articles and how to's but not alot of info on repairing this. Is there somewhere I haven't looked to help me on the restore or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if a "new" tub would be availible for a machine that old. Hopefully some of the pros will weigh in on this. I know that the earlier models used a 3 hole flange on the outer bearings and the later ones use a 4 hole.

I will post some pictures tomorrow, hopefully someone can identify model and give me some advice on what it needs. I don't think he was honest when he said he went trail riding all weekend. It does run and moves but very rough. I've been cleaning the carb and trying to get it adjusted just so it will idle. It's probably going to need a whole lot of tlc and $$$ to get it to where it needs to be. Is there anywhere to buy plastics at a reasonable price?

I just edit last post, Had wrong link.......

I believe you can steel plastic from 5 gallon buckets and other stuff laying around. Cheap, lol. and use a soldering Iron.

And if its a 4 seater, its a MaxIV, if 2 then its MaxII.

Thanks for the advice on plastic. It's a four seater .. Max IV. Anyone know about the Chaparell motor when they were put in the Max and when they stopped using them? Again thanks, this will be a long haul on restore so any and all advice is/will be greatly appreciated!!! and I'm sure since I'm new to 6x6 I will ask a lot of questions with a lot of them being dumb. LOL

What color is it? You might have a RIM on your hands (Recreation Industrial Military). This is the early version of a Max IV, with just a different colored body really. If you can locate the serial numbers, you can call Recreatives Industries and they can tell you the year and lots of other useful information about the machine. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 You can also get all of your parts through them as well. As far as the Chapparal motor goes, it is a 484cc G50B made by Fuji Xenoah. It was advertised to have 48HP, and I must say that it is a great motor! There are a lot of 6x6 Attex racers out there using that motor and it really moves our machines along nicely. Also, there's tons of information on the site about the it, including factory brochures. Good luck on the restoration and keep us updated on and more information.

                    Welcome

                    I've sent you a PM.

You really should come by my shop. I had alot of the same questions when I started my Hustler project. I might have some insight......and maybe a hand full of spare parts.

                    Oh yeah, Welcomw

Thanks Duckhunt! Well just got carb adjusted to idle drove around the yard and broke a chain (the short one from one side of the transmission) Headed to town and get another one. It looks to be a size 50 but no all the numbers are rubbed off or not legible. Is 50 right? Thanks
