  • maxII tub repair

well i completely stripped my max II down to the bare tub, now that its empty and clean i found about a three inch slice in the base of the tub, an idea i had was to take to a place where they spray in the truck bed liners and have them coat the base of the inside and the base of the outside with about a 1/8 coat, that stuff is tough as nails if it will stick? has any body tried this? i know it could be plastic welded but there are lots of deep scratches and the spray liner would fill them all, any advice/compliments on this idea?
    thanks

I would suggest you dont spray the outside because it will create a resistance/drag in mud, on log/rocks and anything else you would normally slide over. Just my $0.02.

I agree with Larry. Amphibs don't have much ground clearance so you slide over a lot of things.

The slice should be welded to eliminate a stress point where it might crack. You usually hear of the bed liner material coming off in sheets rather than staying on. I think if that was a successful solution we would all be using it.

Painted surfaces needs to be roughed up for some liner material to stick. If you have success let us know.

              line x spray liner

so i went to the line x web sight and there are all sorts of plastic applications, then i took it a step further and called them they where absolutely sure that it would be perfect for this, they say it sticks to plastic really nicely!

                Welding

I think I'm with Marc. I would go with the weld for the big stuff. It's not hard to do. And if you wanted a uniform coat (Inside) coat it with the liner.

                (2c)

                Still want a KID

                  weld

i fully intend to weld the cut 1st, i actually have a plastic welder here at work, but after that i want to have a layer put in to fill in the chain scratches/ and divots in the base of the tub, i figure about a 1/8 layer inside wont hurt anything and while im at it 1/8 on the base of the outside if they can do smooth (not rough) i agree a rough surface wouldnt do me any justice!
                  i'll keep ya all posted!
