    Hi all,

I have just commenced the refurb of a 1979 Max II with the Tecumseh OH160 engine. Its been sat in a friends barn since last running in 1983. His father was the UK distributor for them in the late 70's.

My aim is to get it up and running for a car show I organise in andover each September. I may need some helpful advice - I hope I've come to the right place.

    some pics attached.

    Steve.

Welcome to the site! That's some pretty cool history behind your Max. It looks like you have your work cut out for you but with a little time I'm sure you will have it running / looking like new.

Looks like a pair of nice trials bikes, I was going to say Cota but the tank is different and the pipe is on the wrong side.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the Max II restoration. Are those Bultaco trials bikes next to the Max II?

thanks for the warm welcome guys.

They are Bultaco's - one is original apparently but I'm no biker so they were simply pieces of metal that were in my way

there was also a Series 2a lightweight Landorver - now that's more like it - I'll bully my friend into renovating that next

As far a s the Max is concerned; we gave it a good clean first. Then we got the engine turning - seems nice and free with lots of compression. We got the electrics wired up and the starter turning, got a spark but didn't get the engine to fire. Ran out of time but were pleased with our first day's progress.

I am thinking that the problem might be the fuel supply - is it a mechanical pump or some such? Any ideas?

            cheers,

            Steve.
