This 97 max I just got is very hard to shift from reverse, neutal,or forward running are not.Am I just not holding my mouth right are is this normal? Is there any adjustments I can do without having to go inside trans? I seen where it says skid steer on trans tag,I don't know if that means t 20 are what.I didn't look at tag any further.

You don't have to have the shift kit. It's all about learning how to shift it. First make sure that your engine is not idled up too high. If you let off the brakes and your max moves forward, your engine is idled up too high and that's probably the problem.

If the motor is idling fine, then try this:

-Come to a complete stop and hold the sticks back
-Rev the motor slightly by "blipping" the throttle quickly
-As the motor is coming back to idle, put pressure (it doesn't take a whole lot) on the shifter up for reverse
-While holding the shifter up and while the engine is returning to idle, let the sticks start to return to the forward position. Then pull them back and forth quickly to get the gears to line up.

If you are sitting still trying to shift, most likely everything isn't going to line up properly. If you blip the throttle and wiggle the sticks, you can increase your chances of having everything line up.

One alternative method that will work just as well: Put the max in neutral and rock it back and forth while going to reverse.

      Hope that helps some.

Yes, you might not need this kit, and that is great advise, but it sure does make a difference.
