  • Max IV Left Steering Rod very tight all of a sudden

    Hi everyone.

I hope someone can help me out here. I am a newbie.

My Max IV seemed to be running perfect a few weeks ago when I pulled it into my garage.

Then after sitting without being used for the past couple of weeks, I get in it and find that the left steering rod has a very tight feeling to it.

The right one is fine, but the left one takes a lot of effort to pull it back.

Do you have any idea what might be causing this? I am stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Scott

Follow the linkage from the stick back to the transmission and check to see if there are any obstructions or if anything is bent. Lube the plungers that go into the transmission too to help the movement. Finally if everything looks fine push it outside and see if it works fine in forward.

      Thanks

      Thanks,

I have tried to see where it is getting bound up but I can't find it.

It does it in forward and reverse.

The only thing I can think of that I did different that might have caused it is that I jacked it up by the trailer hitch to lube the rear axles.

Perhaps I tweaked something by jacking it up that way. I don't see how, but that is the only thing I can think of.

      Thanks!

      Any other ideas?

That wouldn't hurt anything. Try lubing the entire linkage including the plungers in the T20. Check the tension on the spring to see if it is the same as the other side too.

this happened to me too ,and it turned out to be the pivot tube at the bottom of the steering handle, i pulled the thru bolt at the bottom of the steering handles and put the bolt to a wire wheel and cleaned it up , drilled holes in the top of the tube for greese nips , then lubed everything up and put it back together , this solved my prob , it was amazing how fast this prob croped up once it started to seize it progressed really fast till i could hardly move it at all ...

I had the same problem. It was just as Robinhood02 described. I had to pound on the steering handel to get it off the tube, but once it was cleaned and greased it was fine.

You can try and spray some lube down the tube in the hole on the grip. make sure to spray the mount at the bottom as well
