problem w/ max 2 ( it wont turn off)

i know it may sound silly but my max 2 has not been used in a while . it starts and funs just fine . you may be thinking here is a crazy guy posting he has a problem with a machine that runs fine . well when i go to trun it off it wont . so uon looking further on the back of the switch the black wire (seems to be a ground) is cut . the plug is there but what does the non plug side go to ?

On the engine, beside the voltage regulator there is a litte metal tab. This tab shorts out the coils to ground and kills the motor.

Its hard to see but it there..
