hi everyone great site i have learned alot.i have a 1999 max 4 with a brand new belt on it from ri.it is queling really bad while im driving any idea what could cause this?and how to fit it?
thanks you
If it is the right length belt you probably have installed it at the full adjustment of the old one which would have stretched slightly over time.If you adjust the belt to achieve the recommended deflection your problem should go away.Do you use belt dressing also?If adjusting the belt doesn't make it go away or lessen it dramatically you have too long a belt.LOL I'm into a belt that is too short.Put it in gear and away you go LOL......no a sign of a squeal and I wish I had a slight squeal.
The max IV doesn't have adjustment for the belt except for maybe washers under the engine. I would make sure its the proper belt, that its installed running the proper direction, that the clutch surfaces are clean and smooth on both clutches no rust or anything. Then put on some belt dressing. Are you positive its the belt and not coming from the clutches?

The belt on my Max II squealed a lot when it was new. I ended up having to shim the engine further back to get the proper amount of tension/deflection.
The MaxII doesn't have much adjustment but I'm surprised the Max IV has none. The engine must be stacked pulleys directly over top of one another. That said I've always wanted a MaxIV.
thank you for all the replies
i double checked the belt its brand new and it is the correct one.ri said that i can take the orginal engine washers out to help loosen the belt.the belt has always been a little tight.i have owned the machine since new 1999.
how would i go about checking to see if its the clutch.the clutch is all orginal and its never been apart.
thanks bill
