  • My New 2002 MAX II Questions

Hello fellow 6x6ers, I bought a MAX II last night and my son and I are having so much fun. This is a 2002 with 192 hours that I picked up for $1,800. The right front bearing was squeeling so I greased all of them with water proof grease inside and out, then tightened up the very loose chains per the manual. All was good after that, off to the lake bed behind our house.

The only problem with the unit is the electrical system. It doesn't charge or electric start. Also, the lights and ammeter don't work. The previous owner changed the battery, but still nothing. Looking under the top, there are some wires that have been spliced, and some connectors that don't seem to go anywhere. I probably need a wiring diagram to figure this out. Does anyone know where I can get one?

there usually are here too, your post being so close to Thanksgiving might have just got missed. in any case... welcome aboard! for a lot of questions about your machine (manuals and such) you can contact the manufactuer 1-800-255-2511 Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511
unlike most companies, the folks at Recreative are actually very helpful and know the machines.

The thing that gets me is the extra wire. There is a 2 wire connector coming out of the coil with red and black wires. Right now it's mated with a gray and white connector going into the harness. Along side that is a red and black connector just hanging there of the same size. Why would there be two? I'm tempted to just connect that one, but I'm afraid to short something out that shouldn't be.

There are 2 connectors on the engine with 2 wires each. they look the same shape. one is for the heated throttle cable. If you dont have that option that would explain the extra connector. check the throttle cable good for a connector. also there is a fuse under the dash on the left side almost on the side of the body where the upper and lower bodys meet. then check the connections on the back of the ammeter. if that is all good then somebody might have hacked up the wiring. Hope this helps.
