  • Largest tires on a Max II?

what are the bigest tires that you can put on a max2 with out any mods
max2 with 3000lb winch, split shifter, off road lights, and 50 amp alternator

from factory that the largest are 22" and they dont leave 3/4 " above the tire ,so i find it doubtfull that any larger would fit , however if you're lookin for speed there is room on the jackshaft for a different sproket , output side 1 tooth larger or input side 1 tooth smaller will make big difference however you will sacrafice pulling power
He who has not cruised the back country in a 6x6 , has not lived life to it's fullest
A Mans level of mechanical education directly corresponds to the level pain suffered while getting it

      Max2 tires

You can get 25x12x9, and 25x13x9 on a Max2 if you modify the plastic tub. Both myself and Wildtexasranger have modified our machines. Its not that much effort and the results are a completely superior machine. The additional height keeps you from high centering, and more aggressive tires will get you far beyond where Rawhides would ever go. Matt O's 9" wheels are the best I've utilized, I have yet to knock a tire off a bead even at 0 psi. I run Mudbug tires, but I think the Vampire ASX tires are slightly superior all around. The good thing about the modification is that you can go back to the smaller tires and its barely perceptible that the tub has been modified. There are photos of my machine in the Max gallery.

25X12x9 Mudbugs!!! Matt O Beadlock Rims

Best service I ever got out of the 22" RawhideIII tires were when I traded them to Matt for 6 of his beadlock rims.
ROGER THAT on running 0 psi, those rims just dont turn loose of a bead. But if I'm gonna be floating I'll go ahead and air them up to 3psi for extra lift in the water

            tub mods

You can remove one tire per side at a time. Get a heat gun and heat the plastic above the tires, once the plastic is hot you can use a 1"x8" wood board and raise the plastic by using the tires as a fulcrum. It may take several tries, but its a fairly simple procedure. Just be cautious not to set the machine on fire.

Remember that just because you put on a bigger tire ,doesnt mean you can turn them.It will be out of the question with a 14 hp and hollow axles.16 hp will be pushing it in deep mud.The AV-4 I had ,had 25" tires and a 16 v-twin (4 wheel drive and very light)and in deep thick mud it was very underpowered. It would go,but in deep sticky mud it didnt have the power to spin the tires sufficient enough to clean them .
