  • What a Fun Weekend

I finally got my MaxII fixed this weekend. My throttle cable was siezed and it's been sitting for 2 weeks. I thought I would go on an adventure in a dried lake bed in Tennessee. I live on Douglas Lake and it's dam controlled. Long story short, I got stuck bad. I found myself in about 2.5' of mud and couldn't budge the Max. Finally a friend of mine came with 175' of cable, a pulley, and his arctic cat. We found a tree stump to tie off to and he jerked me out.

I thought I was prepared as I brought 50' of cable, my come-along, and some angle iron to anchor, but it wouldn't hold if the soft dirt. What kind of anchors do you guys carry? I looked on line this weekend at spiral anchors, but couldn't find a good source.

You had some tough conditions.. by yourself, bottomless mud, no anchor points.

You might look at the pull pal, or home made copies. On those solo runs, you can't have enough gear. I should throw my snowshoes in.. they might offer some flotation in the muck.

I looked at the Pull Pal and similar devices. The start at $200 so I probably won't go that route. I was thinking a couple of 24"-36" helical anchors and a "T" Bar. Thanks for the reply.

i've heard of guys carying mobile home anchors (spiral). i just don't ride alone... at least not anywhere i can't walk out of. usually the McCoy (site member) tire and wrecker service has my back. i can handle my own for winching, or tire issues, but it's good to have another machine along. broken chains or an engine that won't fire up can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of the machines age or condition
