Max all have, at least up until 2003, up to only a 6 digit serial number. In some jurisdictions this perplexes motor vehicle registry who are looking for a 17 digit VIN number.
The serial number usually becomes the VIN when trying to register your vehicle. (For Max, that would have been on a dash plaque). Years ago, no one had ever been required to register a vehicle. So nothing has ever been in the system. It seems to have become a requirement now to ride your AATV in a lot of states, ours included. The MAX IV S/N for Godzilla only had 4 digits. It was a pretty big hassle to get it registered, because of that. All our other Maxes are 5 digit numbers. It can be a hassle but, one good reason to get it registered is proof of ownership if it ever gets stolen.
Forgive my error above the serial is 5 digit on mine not six.I know Argo has a VIN of 17 digits.Motor vehicle in my area raises their eyebrows at a 5 digit serial when 17 digit VIN is what they are used to.
