  • need some help please on max iv

I purchased a 2003 Max iv in great condition and am looking to replace the drive chains, do I have o ring chains ? could someone please tell me how and what to ask for when ordering? also the existing chains look in great condition ,but the tensioners are almost fully down, could the chain be to long and need a link removed, please help me understand , the machine looks almost new ,how can the chains be stretch like this.Thank you in advance

Don't remove a link on the chain. Once it is stretched past the point of adjustment it's time to replace it. If you remove a link you will eventually begin to wear out your sprockets and have to replace them too. As far as why your chains are stretched so much, if someone tightened the chain after every ride that could have caused it to stretch more quickly or it could have more hours on it than you think if it doesn't have an hour meter.

As for the chains I believe they are #50 and as new as your max is they were probably o-ring chain from the factory. Maybe one of the max experts can confirm this for you. Worst case take a chain off and take it to your local chain rep to match it up.

do not put 50 on the machine 50 is a roller chain and more prone to stretching put 530 chain on that most likely what is already on your machin you can get it at an atv shop for 30-40 dollars for non o-ring and about $80 for o-ring you get about ten feet in a box i put regular 530 on my machine i dont see the need for o-ring chain because the chain is in a sealed tub and i lube it regularly P.S i tried 50 it was stretched after two rides
