  • Main drive sprockets

Just bought a Max IV, haven't even had time to thoroughly look it over yet. Most of the drive train maintenance is obvious, but I'm wondering about how one changes the the main drive sprockets on the transmission. Can they be removed from the drive shaft, or do you have to replace the whole thing?

on a max iv you will have to pull the engine, remove the trany, and tear it down to change the drive sprockets. if it's your first time working on one of these, plan on a weekend (or two) to do the entire project.
in the attached picture, the top left item is the clutch side drive sprocket and the shaft it rides on. this is slid into the bearing in the side of the trany. on the inside the shift collar goes over this shaft, and it is held in with a snap ring

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think I'll have to worry about it for a while but I like to know what I'm getting into.
