    just got a max iv 1989 with allmost new motor no speed and no power belt seems to long can easly pull belt off of bottom pully, belt looks new how do i know if i have the wright belt it is a 16 hp motor thank for help

    From what you're saying, it's WAY too loose. A loose belt wont grab until the Drive clutch closes quite a bit, and then you're starting in too high a gear. No speed No power. The belt should be loose enough you can shift without force, but the exact deflection I am not sure of on a Max IV. You can put blocks under the engine mount to raise it up. R.I. shims their motors for proper belt tension, but if it's really loose, you'll need a shorter belt. Still, I'd try blocks first, the belts good and a new one isn't exactly cheap.

      need help on max iv

      i have done everything i can think of but the belt sliping under hard pull seems to be tiet enough is the motor cluth weak or is there something i can spray on it to make it grab thank you deerhunter

        Have you shimmed the motor up away from the transmission like 6x6 mentioned to tighten the belt? Like he said, if you can take the belt off by hand without moving the motor then something is wrong so first fix that issue and then go from there.
