  • 3-M caulk

as i said in my earlier post today, i'm servicing my max-4 axle bearings. when you guys replace the plate on the outside, first you need to place a small bead of 3-m caulk under the plate. i'm wondering just how tight do you tighten the 4 bolts. it would seem to me that if you make them overly tight, the caulk would be pushed out of where it should be. should i just tighten enough to seal the area and then maybe be using locktite to be sure that they won't loosen up?

RI's bearing replacement instructions say 35ft/lbs torque on the outer flange bolts. Some of the 3m will squeeze out but not all. Autozone sells a windshield repair ribbon sealer that has nearly the exact ingredients, acts the same way as strip caulk, comes in a 15ft long X 3/8" diameter roll, and seals as well as 3m, and it's not too costly.
DESTRUCTION is just a couple of vowels down the street from DISTRACTION

The best is what I use to seal metal roofs with its called mystic tape you can get it at any metal building supply shop and its cheap What RI sell is 3m mystic tape I think it was John I was talking to at RI and he said it was the same stuff. I think I pay $1.50 to $3.00 a roll but I get it by the box and theres 24 rolls in a box I still have some if any one needs some let me know
