Was wondering what size winch you guys use on a max II that is strong enough and easy to mount on it? Mines a 1998 maxII with a 14hp engine so its pretty light.

My 2003 Max II came from the factory with a 2000 lb winch. Now I see they install a 2500 lb winch on all models. The 2000 lb model has enough power though I wouldn't want a lighter one.Usually when winching I take a pull then give it a shot of gas and it has always come right out.

I use the Harbor Freight 2000 lb ATV winch.......it works great and is usually on sale for $49.99.

Im using a Harbor Freight 3000 lb winch and it works well. I used their winch plate and had to weld it to a spare Max inside plate with the studs removed so the winch could be mounted Horizontally.

I'm gonna go with the harbor frieght 2000 pound and build my own plates. That should be enough for all I'll be doing with it if not i'll bust out a snatch block.

My 98 Max 4 has a Rule 1500 Lb. winch on it and it is useless. First time I have a few extra bucks I will replace it with at least a 2500 lb. version.

                Cheers, Ryan

i have 2000lb gorillas on both of our trail machines. (49.99 at central tractor). the one on my attex pulled out me and most everyone else at the last fall Busco ride. it tugged a couple argo avenger 8x8's no problem. the only complaint i have with it is it will free spool slowly in the locked position if you don't have power to it... so you can't winch yourself up a tree and get out to fix a tire

My Max 2 has a 2500lb Superwinch. More than adequate for any stuck I've been in, and have also tugged out some large four wheelers stuck down to their frames. My winch was bought 12 years ago for $100, nothing too high tech. Your money goes further today for buying a winch then it did then. Champion has some 3000LB and 3500Lb winches for less than $150. I used a 3000lb model on a friend's Polaris Ranger last winter, the winch really impressed me. If my Superwinch goes out, that's probably what I'd buy next.
I made a custom mount for my winch and it has a heavy duty sandwich type assembly that has a 12"w x 8"h inner plate that is bolted through the body via 6 3/8th" bolts.
