  • Max IV need bilge pump?

Hey guys, Ive been having a blast with my new Max IV. Had it in the lake for about an hour today. I pulled the plugs and there was some water (less than a gallon) Should I put a bilge pump onboard? Also any suggestions on how to easily lift the 6x6 off the ground to check chain tension would be welcomed.

BTW. I put in at the community boat ramp and really turned heads when I went in the water. Its cool. No one around here has ever seen an amphib before. People were using their camera phones to capture the moment.

    Thanks,
    Rutledge

I like bilge pumps. Even if you get your machine waterproof, things can happen. Drain plug, a boats wake..

That little bit of water really isn't enough to be concerned with. With that said, it is never a bad idea to install a bilge pump. They are very inexpensive and are simple to install. Here's mine in the Max IV

As far as the chain tension, you can always just jack up one side at a time. Just put the jack up under the left or right rail and raise it up until all 3 tires are off the ground.

Anytime I have one of my amphibs in a body of water for a long time, I install a bilge pump. If I were you, I would certainly install one. You can get a 650 gallon per hour pump for about $15-20.
That reaction you got at the boat ramp must have really been quite the feeling! I remember that same feeling when I would take my 6 wheeler in the Erie Canal near Buffalo, NY during the Canal Fest. It is great when people who have never seen these machines in action see them do something like drive in the boat launch! Very cool!!!
