RIM refurb

Finally getting around to paying some much-needed attention to the RIM, which has been mothballed for a while. I've thrown a roll cage and some 26" Goodyear's on it (thanks JP...) which spruce it up quite a bit. I need to recover the seats and do some general maintenance, but it's pretty much its old, unstoppable self. If you've never run 26" Goodyear Super Terra Grips on a RIM/ Max IV, I highly suggest it. You could practically water-ski behind this thing. Really amazing.

i thought the 26" tires couldn't fit the RIM and early Max IV's...is this true or false? i thought maybe you modified the body but I see you have the original brown lower body.

Hey Andy, you wouldn't believe the clearance in there once you level out the body to where it's supposed to be. HDPE tends to sag over time, and, well... the RIM has been around for about 25 years or so. Add about 80 pounds or so of roll cage to that body and she's downright droopy. So I decided to take her to the Joan Rivers School of AATV Beauty, and gave her a couple lifts and tucks in the appropriate spaces. If you look at the one picture in the gallery, I supported the cage by running a couple pieces of 3/4" tubing down to the frame from the "Big5ish" looking center hoop. It took all of the weight off the body, and allowed me to actually LIFT the body up to the cage (where it was sagged) with the mounting bolts. The seam is nice and level now, and with the 26" tires inflated all the way, there is at least 1 1/2" of clearance from the top of the tire to the body in most spots. They fit fantastic. Ly. Fantasticly. yeah... No plastic surgery necessary!

Now THAT looks familiar! I like the idea of going to the seat frame, but it just didn't come to me when I was thinking it over. I had hopes that the new little tubes wouldn't get in the way of any passengers in the back seat, but since there's only enough room for two seven year-olds in the first place, I didn't think I'd lose much. Great looking MaxIV. Who's the new owner?
