  • Ochlockonee River Run

    Hey Guys,

Had my Max IV for about a week now. Ive, put over 18 hours on it. Today, loaded up the family and road over to Lazy Daze Boat ramp on the Ochlockonee River. I am sooo lucky, I am 1000ft from Lake Talquin, 1000ft from the National Forest, and less than one mile on trails to the River. You might know of the drought in Georgia, well, this has lead to a VERY low river. Perfect for the 6x6. We went to the river today because of the excessive hunting in the forest.

I am glad I had a Max today, because I needed the visibility over the front to see the barely submerged logs/trees in the river. I sure didn't want to get hung up in the middle of the river with my family aboard. Things went really well. It was kind of spooky when we would hit bottom and gain immediate traction on one side and not the other. The sandbars would be a cool place to camp.

The Max IV with 26" tires was able to swim upriver with no problems. I tested this prior to heading downstream.

Question??? How often should I grease the bearings? I usually ride alittle everyday and usually float some too.

    Thanks,
    Rutledge

Just to be safe, I usually grease my bearings every time I take it in water with marine grease. I just figure that it is better to be safe than sorry. It has worked pretty well so far, and I dont have to install new bearings very much at all. Sounds like you have a cool place to ride. I have heard that those 26" Goodyear Super Terra Grip tires swim very well, although I havent had a chance to try them out on my Hustler BIGFOOT since I havent had the rig in the water yet. Keep on 6x6ing!

How often do you find yourself changing bearings?

On one of my Max II's that is registered as a boat and ATV, I havent had to replace one bearing since it has been making trips in the water and mud bogs. I bought the machine and Im not sure if the previous owner greased the bearings that much because I replaced 3 of them soon after I purchased it, and they didnt look like they had seen grease in a long time.

Properly maintained, those bearings should last a very long time. Of course it depends on how much you use it, take it in the water, grease it, etc. As Jeff mentioned it is a great idea to grease them everytime you take it in the water. Usually at least a little bit of water will work its way in there. You can tell because when you grease them after a ride you will hear or see it coming out.

I've found that jacking up one side of the Max as high as you can makes it very easy to get the grease gun in there especially behind that middle tire/wheel and it only takes a few minutes to do. Of course if you have a lift that would be even easier.
