  • MaxII or MaxIV

Well I have been looking around and watching the vids on you tube and here with the 6x6s. And as soon as I get rid of this truck I got stuck with Im getting me one, you guys got the bug stuck in me lol. But my question is this, on my quad I am addicted to mud and I cant bypass a mud hole hardly. So what would be better a MaxII or a MaxIV? Or is it just 6 in one and a half a dozen in the other? I figured a MaxII is lighter but with the reading I have done, you cant fit a bigger mud tire on it like a MaxIV. I would love to find a Hustler Bigfoot but I think I would have an easier time finding a Max in my price range.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi, I am new to this aswell. in May I bought a 23hp Max 2 brand new only because the dealer had the one left and was not getting anymore. I paid the equivalent of $4000 for it. I use it to bring turf off the bog (an Irish thing) it has never got stuck even pulling atrailer of turf. I have seen pics of Max 2's on this site with extended axles which accommodate bigger wheels. Given the choice though I would go for the Max 4 just because you have the option to carry more than one passenger.

the differences in machines (all makes) aren't that huge. every machine has things it does better than others and compromises on the other end. your best bet is to try to meet people and drive machines before you buy if at all possible. i'm 6'6" and a max 4 is not comfortable for me. neither was my hustler before I did some mods, and if i had a 4 i could do a lot of things to make it suit me better . both of the machines you are talking about are very capable and I don't think you would be disapointed with either. one item of note, the machines you see that can go through anything probably have an experienced driver behind the sticks. there is some driving, thinking, and experience involved. you can't expect any machine to do all the work, but they are impressive from the get go. with a little stick time and getting to know whatever machine you choose, you will be amazed at the places you and it are able to go

Thanks Guys. Well I never thought of the experience, but your right that does have a lot to do with things. And racer, I wish I could find some just to drive to figure out what I want exactly. But I have never seen a 6x6 around here. Acutally I have only seen one in person in my life.. and that was on a trailer going up the highway a couple of years ago...But I did own a Terra jet if that counts for someting..

you should be able to find tons of machines in Ohio. start a new thread along the lines of "Want to test Drive in Ohio" and I bet some people will speak up. I bought my first machine sight unseen and it didn't fit me well. I still loved it, but it wasn't right for me. be warned, your fleet will probably multiply. buy whichever you can find and a few years (or months) down the road you will probably have the other... just seems to be the way it works around here.

From what I have read the Max 4 is a different ride than most due to the front row of seats being right over the front wheel, If you have ever driven a Cab Over Engine COE truck then u will understand how the ride is different and can really bounce you on dips and bumps due to seating position. see post number 2 in this thread by JPswift

I have a Max II and really like it.I researched both and got some really good pros and cons on both models.I have read that the Max IV with 26" tires is better in mud and a bit quicker in water and obviously it can haul four people.I like the Max II best because of legroom and its more nimble and stable also I think it would be better in snow with tracks because it is lighter.A veteran member of this forum told me hands down Max II with 23 hp. Kohler and 22" Rawhide III tires and probably a better ride seated over the middle wheels. It suits my needs best but many will like the Max IV best. It's down to personal needs and opinion.

I just got into owning a 6x6, was interested in a 4 seater but came across a max II, I really like it, easy access to all the working parts for fixes, with help from the folks here you can get about any answer you need. max II is fast nibble and awsome in some serious terrain. been dry this summer but the II is so light I glided over my normal black mud hole without any extra revolutions of the tires. very stable in steep terrain, and the cornering is better then I ever could have immagined. I already feel like multiplying will be the only issue here.
