  • Parking Brake!!!! Stinky!!!

OK, I know that I am not the first to do this!

Just got off of an evening ride on the Max IV with the family. Close to the end of the ride I could smell something burning. I stoped to check out the situation to discover I have been riding with the parking brake on. Whoops! I will have to add that to the preflight checklist

Before I restored my Max the parking brake was very loose anyway and I did that on numerous occasions. One time I wondered why there was so much heat coming from the floorboard Now it's tight enough that you can really tell when the brake is on so it's not a big deal.

      Don't worry though, I won't tell if you won't?

Yes,,I,ve been there and done that too ! I set my parking brake one time and later on forgot to unlock it . Shortly after I did this , I began to notice my Max IV was getting very hard to skid steer . Hmmm,,this has never happened before ? Whats up? Then it dawned on me I had set the parking brake on the side of a hill , and completely forgot to unlock it afterwards .

Very common problem. I do it often but have the brakes tight enough that I notice it immediately.

              parking brake

I heard once that someone forgot their parking brake on and it generated so much heat the shoes caught on fire and melted the tub..

So how do you set the parking brake?

Hawk, if you hold down the foot brake with your foot, there is a smaller lever near your heel that you push down to hold the brake down. It just locks the foot brake into place. This may have been added only on later models?

My Max II which is a 97 model has it but I don't believe the Max IV (which is an early 90's model) does. Maybe the Max gurus can chime in here.

A dead giveaway when the parker is on is the very quick and direct steering with only a slight touch of the levers. Got me thinking.
