hey every body been real busy with life but forget that got ahold 3 cyl john deere diesel 16 hp what do think about puttin it in max 4 i looked at whippers godzilla ilike the way he moved the tranny foward and kept the motor down where i think it should be lookin for some feed back currently powed by a 22 hp kawasaki and 94 c comet duster clutch kawi is kinda tired what do you guys think about the stock gearing with the diesel thanks all mogman aka jim
Hi: The weight isn't a concern, and Jim (Mogman) and I are looking at probably putting the tranny in FRONT of the motor and dropping the motor down. Current power is liquid cooled and the Yanmar isn't gonna add much weight. Also check out Shanna/KevinGriffin's max, with a Ford 4-cylinder, these machines can take a heavy motor without TOO much issue. It's all mounting and balance. The BIG question here is power wise. Personally I think it will be awesome, especially with the reaction people have had with the China 10hp Diesels. Just wondering about other people's opinions on the HP loss VS torque gains, and top speed (which I think will be about the same given same clutching and gearing since both govern at about 3600 rpm).

I think you'd be happy with it. Busco was my first real run with the Hustler Bigfoot powered by a Kubota Z482 twin. It's only rated at about 14 horsepower and the machine itself is probably close to the same weight as a Max IV. I tweaked the fuel up a little and it seemed to give it a little more punch. It still felt somewhat underpowered, but it ran all weekend and climbed some hills that surprised me. I'm looking for a triple to take the little twin's place, but for now it'll do just fine.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

I can vouch for the performance of Don's diesel Hustler BIGFOOT......I rode with those guys at Busco and that Hustler was an absolute bulldozer that drove through just about anything in its path.
