Tracks

I have purchased factory tracks. I have had nothing but trouble with mine and cannot figure why both front tires keep breaking beads, thus throwing tracks. Although I am very frustrated, There is no vehicle that will come close to you with tracks. When they work, my friends with the quads simply have to avoid following me. I am in eastern Canada and we do get some winter here. I would not use a track without a cleat of some kind for winter use, the ones I bought from the Max dealer are rubber and on slippery surfaces render the vehicle useless. In muddy bogs, power lines, even in the water a quad simply cannot follow you with just the rubber tracks.
I would add to that it is very important to have the proper axle support and extensions. I paid big friggen money for my tracks, and still cannot use them.
I would certainly tell you that once you have the tracks on and reliable, you WILL NOT BE SORRY. Just be sure to do it right, with supports etc as required by the manufacturer.

Plastic tracks?

What about the plastic tracks like tru trax, have max owners ran them without reinforcing the axles? I know they would still stress, but less than the rubber tracks.

Hi Roger, Yes I know guys who plow with tracks on a regular Max iv . RI do not recommend it and I don.t have any track exoerience, so I don't know.Can other people help us out here?

Hawk, I now have that Scat song stuck in my head! That was an entertaining video though. By the way Philip was saying you need the track equipment that R.I. supplies (instead of RI supply). RI is Recreative Industries, the manufacturer of Max 6x6's.

I heard this song at a conference where I won a national award in 2005 and it is stuck in my head since then. I have the whole song if you are interested.

Maybe I would expecting to much from the max and other options should be considered. Your right about the price, you could probably find a used with RI tracks, for about the price of a new set.

Hi Snappy; I do not want to be a" bad news "guy but the truth may save you money in the long run. The movies by Hawk show how much fun you can have in the winter without tracks, and we can tell from the round headlights that that is an older machine!. BUT if you are putting tracks onto a max, especially if you are going to work it by hauling logs you will need the re-enforcing equipment that RI supply and you may find it easier to look for a machine that has the track kit already installed. I hope that other Max iv guys with more track experience than me will chime in. Good luck.

Yes mine is a 97 and this is the first winter I have owned it though it is low hours and excellent shape. It is crappy in the deep snow but a lot of fun on the plowed road.

Thanks for the info, I figured that tracks might be the answer, the issue is can the cost be justified. Seems like every year we less snow, but when it does hang on. In the near furture we how to purchase a portable band saw, track would certainly help getting logs out of the woods. Guess I am trying to convince myself on the cost.
