max joystick springs ,rims tires

i took my springs off my joysticks is that a good idea or a bad one i have more control now but will have to keep them foward when i go forward also is there going to be a pop or something to that nature when the plunggers on tranny go all the way out kind of them falling in a groove or does the orings need replaced also will 12 inch rims with 23 inch tires fit pretty good without out body mods

Nothing wrong with removing the springs. Max comes with them from the factory but other ATVs like Attex didn't use them. It just comes down to your personal preference. A lot of people feel that removing them gives you better control. Some style T20's will make the popping sound with the plungers snapping the C-channel against the case. Don't worry about that sound.

23" tires will probably fit without any mods but I wouldn't use any 23" tire that required 12" wheels. Since we use the tires as our only form of suspension, by going from an 8" to a 12" wheel, you take away a lot of rubber and with that, the quality of the ride diminishes greatly. Also, with the smaller sidewall, you take away some of the tires ability to conform to objects at low PSI and that means less performance depending on what kind of riding you do.

Well thanks mike guess i will stick with eight inch rims its just i want a taller tire and the biggest i have been able to find is a 22 inch tire i know they had to make bigger ones than that i have owned a lot of atvs so i know there out there but havent been able to find them

Larry I put 22s on my Max II and love them. A good difference in ride quality, only you dont get much more on clearence. Also search the threads on here for people talking about 12 inch rims on a max 4 and how rough they are with 27 inch tires to add to what mike said. Couldn't imagine how rough with only a 23...probably knock every filling out of your mouth by the end of the ride.

If you want something larger than a 22", 25" is as large as you can go before the tires start to touch each other. Most Max II's require you to heat and remold the tub to fit 24" tires and all will require some modification to run 25" tires. I just put 25" rawhide III's on mine and it was a big improvement over the 22" ones. There is a thread here in the Max forum you can search for that talks about running 25" tires on your Max II.

You can get 24" Argo Frontier tires that will fit your 8" wheels. They will give you the fastest water speed and you don't have to buy larger wheels. For most 25" tires that swim, you will have to purchase 9" wheels.

There is nothing wrong with the 12" Max IV wheels. They are great. It's just the stock 26" Goodyear tires that give a rough ride. I have a different 26" tire on my wife's Max IV with the 12" wheels and they ride fine.
