  • max axles and sprockets

i recently had my max jacked up on one side and noticed theres a little to much movement on the hub to center axle divider thing that the bolt on my model holds the hub/half shaft/axle or which ever u want to call it and sprocket has a little play is there suppose to be a little movement or are they not to give at all i can c if there suppose to be for chain giveness but i feel it should be all lock with no movement

ideally, there should be no movement. unless you upgrade to splined axles that is a pipe dream. even if you make a new axle and sprocket tube, drill the holes under size, and ream them just enough to where the bolt has to be pounded in with a hammer, it's just a matter of time till they work loose again. make sure your bolt is "body bound" http://www.6x6world.com/forums/gener...ound-bolt.html also, use fine thread bolts as you can get more holding force with them.
if the holes in the sprocket tubes are egg shaped, you can weld on spacers and use longer bolts. for the ones pictured, i took a stick of 3/4 solid round stock, gun drilled it to just under 3/8, then cut it into 3/8" long slices. bolt everything together, then weld the spacers to the sprocket tubes
there is a ridiculous amount of force on these bolts. the last ride i was on, one of the axle bolts broke on one of the ones pictured and ripped the spacers, welds, and a good chunk off the right center sprocket tube off.

Well first u must have the 50 size chain 520 is a little narrower next i bought the sprockets from to different places one at a napa the other at tractor supply next is straight foward the hole in sprocket is for a 5/8 bolt needs to be at least 2-1/2 inches long i believe thats what i bought one nut two 5/8 washers two 5/8 sae washers there smaller one 3/4 washer its bigger next take adjuster plate off discard slider put bolt and one 5/8 washer on it bolt adjuster plate back in you cant put bolt in with plate on the frame next put 3/4 washer on then 5/8 washer then one sae washer sprocket sae washer then nut it seems to be alright for now but the openeing for slider needs to be beefed up will worry about that later the back washer bent a little when i really torqued it down so thats really my fault to tight but i will get pics as soon as i can
