The 23 Briggs is a nice conversion for a Max2. If you install one you can route the exhaust out the rear of the hull. That also helps with motor/belt adjustment. The motor mounts on the stock set up can also be modified to allow you to slide the engine either forward or backwards for additional belt tension. I have not modified my Max 2 motor mounts yet but plan to do so in the near future. You can also lower the center of gravity (which is already good) by lowering the motor another 1.25" or so.Originally posted by larryf View PostWill a briggs or kohler opposed cylinder engine fit in a max 2 with little mods or will it be to long and hit trans

Larry,
The motor mount on the Max II might be too low to swap in an opposed Kohler or Briggs. I've not tried it, but I know that the motor mount is quite low as opposed to machines I've seen that run the Oppy's from the factory. I've seen Hustlers and MaxIVs use them, but their motor mounts are all up-high. If no one else chimes in that has tried it, consider yourself a pioneer, and see what becomes of it!

Larry, I did look into using a Briggs opposed before I went with a Kohler v-twin. I did have the Briggs set in to check clearance and I was surprised to see that it fit. I did not go any further, like checking belt lengths and so on, so I don't know any more other than it will fit in the location.

Yes an opposed twin Briggs or Kohler will fit in a Max II, I believe they were called Kohler Magnum and Briggs I/C (industrial/commercial). 6x6World member Racerone3 put my 18HP Briggs I/C out of my Hustler BIGFOOT into his Max II.Originally posted by larryf View PostWill a briggs or kohler opposed cylinder engine fit in a max 2 with little mods or will it be to long and hit trans"Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I'd love to see the mounts if you do a tear down or have to pull the engine. I'm not dead set on a swap yet but I just sold my two stroke so I can buy a 4 stroke, and opposed twins aren't out of the question especially since there seems to be an abundance of them cheap.Originally posted by racerone3 View PostDanW

Sorry, but that machine was sold somewhere around 2011. That 18IC briggs was a stump puller! I used to use that machine to pull a trailer loaded to the gills with firewood and it never bogged down a bitA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
